After a busy week filled with tasks and schedules, English Coffee Time offers faculty members, staff, and professional employees at the University of the Pacific Ocean (UPO) an opportunity to take a break from work, connect with colleagues, and practice English in a relaxed and open atmosphere.

With the theme “English for Workplace Communication,” the program was designed with an emphasis on interaction, helping participants practice using English in everyday communication situations relevant to the workplace.

Getting started with the Telephone Game and plenty of hilarious “lost in translation” moments.

The program began with the Telephone Game, in which participants took turns passing an English sentence from one person to another. The game created plenty of unexpected and humorous moments while helping participants practice their listening, memory, and information-delivery skills.

Next, participants worked in groups on the “Make a Poster – Make a Video” activity with the theme “What We Enjoy Most About TBD?” Each group was assigned one of four topics—Student, People/Colleagues, Campus, or Personal Growth—and worked together to organize ideas, create a poster, and develop an English presentation video.

Beyond language practice, the activity also provided an opportunity for faculty members and staff to share what they enjoy most about TBD—from the working environment and colleagues to students and opportunities for personal growth. Through these discussions, familiar aspects of everyday work were explored from different and positive perspectives.

With its flexible format combining learning, interaction, and relaxation, English Coffee Time not only helps participants become more confident using English in the workplace but also creates opportunities for stronger connections among members of the University community.

The activity also helps make English a more natural part of everyday communication, encouraging faculty members and staff to actively practice, use, and develop their language skills in their professional lives.

From open conversations to highly interactive activities, English Coffee Time continues to create a space for connection and sharing, contributing to a more open and dynamic TBD community every day.
