On the morning of February 23 (the 7th day of the Bính Ngọ Lunar New Year), the University of the Pacific Ocean (UPO) visited Nguyen Van Troi High School (Nha Trang) for a friendly exchange with teachers and students in the joyful atmosphere of the early days of the Lunar New Year.

The program delivered many meaningful activities aimed at motivating and guiding students as they approach the important stage of choosing their future academic majors and career paths.

Career Orientation from an Expert Perspective

A highlight of the event was the sharing session by People’s Teacher, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ho Thanh Phong, President of the University of the Pacific Ocean. With many years of experience in higher education and as one of the pioneers in developing the field of Logistics and Supply Chain Management in Vietnam, he provided practical insights into choosing a major and career in a labor market that is constantly evolving under the influence of technology and global integration.

During his talk, People’s Teacher, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ho Thanh Phong emphasized the importance of understanding one’s own abilities, identifying core values, and building a long-term development plan rather than choosing a field of study based solely on short-term trends. He also analyzed emerging demands of the labor market, including foreign language proficiency, digital skills, critical thinking, and adaptability—key factors that help young people enhance their competitiveness in the future.

People’s Teacher, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ho Thanh Phong shared real-life stories about choosing a major and career path, gently addressing students’ concerns as they approach the threshold of their future.

Through real-life stories from his experiences in teaching, research, and collaboration with businesses, his sharing session provided students with a clearer understanding of the connection between university education and societal needs. Many questions related to major selection, career opportunities, and future prospects were addressed in an open, practical, and well-oriented manner. The atmosphere of the exchange was friendly and engaging while maintaining academic depth and professionalism.
